Most people on these forums aren't quite new enough to benefit from this guide from I took the time to write it a while back so I figured I would leave it here.

 

"I see an absolutely insane amount of whining and complaining about how impossible DMM is. This is scaring a lot of people away from even trying it, which is a shame. I am here to tell you that DMM is far from impossible. "Oh clans just run it you die every two seconds from RoT and 100+ players" The people who say this are morons. You should never listen to them. I am currently lvl 91 with 99 range and on my way to 94 mage and I would like to share my tips and experiences with you all. If you follow these steps you WILL be able to successfully level up.
Disclaimer: If you expect instant gratification and/or do not learn from your mistakes then yes DMM is impossible and is not for you.

Lvl 3 and just started:

Choose Gnome Stronghold as your original spawn location. Upon arriving use the agility course. What level you choose to get to off the bat is up to you but it takes no time so I would get at least 30. PROTECT IT. Agility is essential for escaping/chasing in DMM.
Home Teleport to Lumbridge. When you get there run to Varrock while you are lvl 3 with nothing to lose. When you get to Varrock start pickpocketing lvl 2 men. Get approximately 300 gp. Go to the Tea stalls on the east side and steal those for food if you need it. After you have 300 gp go to the range store buy a CROSSBOW for around 70 gp then spend the rest on bronze bolts. They ALWAYS cost 1 gp ea. Get you crossbow and bolts and go to the pub and go upstairs.
Range the lvl 2 men to get your original stats up. Combat is the single most important skill in this game as it helps protect everything you get through your other skills. The lvl 2 men will drop Herbs, most importantly Ranarrs, Avantoes, and Dwarf Weeds. These are valuable make sure to pick them up. Selling these is actually good money and you will be able to use the money to buy things to put in your safe deposit box to store wealth. I made my first 400k off herbs from lvl 2 men. ALSO lvl 2 men drop more bronze bolts than you will use ranging them even without avas. So you essentially have infinite ammo while training on these. Make sure to protect range and hitpoints. Use 100k of your earnings to insure your 50 hp until you can make 1m to insure 75.

After 70 Range:

You can do this as long as you want but it starts to really drag around 65 ranged. I did this to 70 though. It is also a good idea to range some on defensive and get at least 45. You need to buy 65k bronze bolts for 65k gp from the shop. Then comes the most dangerous part of the guide. You need to buy a cammy tab and dorg cross bow and walk to gnome stronghold with your bolts. I have done this many times and did not even get attacked. Just be smart and ready to turn around and run.
Once you get in Gnome stronghold you will find right the west of the main door there are 2 terrorbirds on the outside of the fence. Make friends with these because you will be shooting them for a long time. However they are decent xp at about 100k per hour. So 120 hours till 99 range. It is also a very safe spot since you are in safezone most players wont even bother attacking you over the fence. Some may try but you are practically impossible to kill if you have food and are paying attention. 65k bolts will get you 99 range here.

Random Pro Tips for DMM. (Some you may not agree with but that's just how it is)

Watch a LOT of DMM streams. Use these to learn about areas before you go yourself. What are popular spots to pk what spots are relatively safe.

Join a clan. You may not like the idea of #clanmanmode but there is safety in numbers.

If possible use an alt/friend to scout places for you while questing.

Do your questing late at night to have the lowest chance of death.

Do your questing right after you hit 50 or 75 hp and insure to have the smallest impact on your stats in case of death.

Get overhead prayers as soon as possible. This can be done easily after you get 70 agility and go to blue dragons in taverly.

Always carry as much food as you can and when you get the money bring a pray pot and sara brews.

Do not afk.

Avoid multi areas at all costs.

Do slayer. It's excellent money at later levels.

If possible swap 07 to DMM to accomplish your goals. Just make sure the cash is safe in depo box in item form until you need.

The single most important tip of DMM is to know that deaths ARE going to happen. LEARN FROM THEM.

The xp/hr vs the cost just doesn't justify it. 10x the price for 60% more xp.
