Bummer dude, how far off 99 fletch were you??
a Trojan is a file that tells your computer it is a standard executable file while it runs it's true purpose (generally farming information for advertising/marketing programs)
a "RAT" attack is a Trojan file where the information is compiled and sent as well as being remotely accessible ie it generally opens ports in your firewall and runs as an executable similar to team viewer (people can log onto your computer in real time to access the program)
These can be a lot more harmful than just losing GP so even though it sucks, at least it wasn't your bank account or your sex tape.
Typically a system restore will remove any potentially malicious programs you have downloaded as it re installs a complete new operating system, if you are concerned it is a good idea to get a free trial of a payed anti-virus software run the scans throughout the duration of your trial and just don't extend the subscription.
The trick to avoiding these kind of things from happening is be extremely restrictive in your downloading.
This includes your internet browser extensions.
I typically only stream media content and if I do torrent it is onto an external hard drive and scanned.
Phishing is the next big thing to watch out for once again not just with regards to old school.
