  10. Permanent F2P - The Details mod_ronan February 04 2015 Permanent F2P Earlier today, at 10am GMT, we closed the permanent F2P & Membership Bonds poll. Permanent F2P and Membership Bonds have passed comfortably with 85.9% approval. As mentioned in previous newsposts, permanent F2P will open on Thursday 19th February. The release of Membership Bonds will follow this at some point in March. F2P Restrictions We mentioned adding some restrictions to F2P once it is released permanently in order to cut down on the number of bots farming F2P resources. Since the initial F2P proposal we have refined some of these restrictions to make sure that legitimate players get the most out of their experience of F2P. New account restrictions For the first 24 hours of in-game time on a newly made F2P account players will not be able to trade items off their account. They can still receive items but they cannot trade their items away. This restriction will also apply outside of trading to prevent other methods of transferring items: • If the player drops an item manually, the item is visible only to them. It does not ever become visible to other players. • If the player dies to a PKer, their dropped items vanish and cannot be retrieved by anyone. • The player cannot add items to a Trade offer or Duel offer. When the trade screen opens a message on the screen will tell the player how long it will be until they can offer items. Their trading partner will see a similar message. Having this limit in place will give us the ability to catch bots before they are ever able to get resources off their accounts while only preventing players from trading in the period of game time where they are least likely to do so. If you have ever been a member this restriction will not apply to you. Duel Arena limits To accompany the above limits on trade we are also adding some restrictions to the Duel Arena on F2P worlds: • The only item that can be staked is coins. • No more than 1,000,000 coins may be staked. Chat restrictions We will also be making some changes that allow us to better detect and silence spam bots. Players found to be flooding the public chat channel and not using autochat will be dealt with far more quickly and will be temporarily muted in no time. This will apply in both members and F2P, helping clean up the streets of Lumbridge for new players. Changes to these restrictions We are going to be carefully monitoring the impact that these restrictions have over the release of permanent F2P. While we want to do as much as we possibly can to reduce the number of bots, we want to do it in a way that allows new players to get the most out of Old School. As we get feedback and data from the release of permanent F2P we will make the appropriate tweaks to these restrictions to make sure that they are fitting for the game. Other tweaks The return of yew logs and lobsters With these restrictions in place we will be able to make chopping yew logs and fishing lobsters available to F2P players once again. Increased quantities of low-level monsters As some of you may know from visiting F2P worlds, low-level monsters can get populated fast. This is often due to bots and with the release of permanent F2P we expect this to extend to larger numbers of players passing through as well. In an effort to make sure new players have monsters to kill so they can progress, and to help disperse the bots and make them easier to detect, we will be increasing the number of low-level monsters in and around Lumbridge and other starting areas of the game. This will make sure that anyone who is just getting started in Old School will have a variety of different training spots to use and plenty of monsters wherever they choose to level up. Livestreams, videos and events To celebrate the long awaited release of F2P, we will be holding and releasing a number of F2P specific livestream events and videos. You'll have many opportunities to get involved in some F2P fun alongside the rest of the Old School community. If you aren't subscribed to our YouTube channel or following our Twitch channel be sure to do so. This will let you know when we go live and when videos go up so you get the best possible opportunity to take part and enjoy the content coming out surrounding the permanent F2P release. Spread the word! RuneScape has forever been a game built on word-of-mouth and friends telling friends about this awesome online game they play. Even in 2015 word-of-mouth is one of the most effective tools at our disposal to get the word about Old School out there. The release of permanent F2P is an excellent opportunity for your old 'scaping buddies to get a taste of what they're missing out on. We'll be doing all we can to spread the word and we hope that you will join us. Discuss this on the forums. Mods Archie, Ash, Ghost, Ian, John C, Mat K, Reach, Ronan, Weath The Old School Team

  13. February - The Month Ahead February is here and we have a lot planned for Old School. The long awaited achievement diaries will be arriving as well as the dragon defender. Oh, and let's not forget... Permanent free-to-play AND the Grand Exchange! Let's dive into The Month Ahead. Permanent Free-to-Play The permanent F2P & Membership Bonds poll is nearing conclusion and it is still comfortably passing with over 85% approval from the community. Providing nothing changes before 10am GMT on Wednesday 4th February we will be implementing permanent F2P later on this month. We plan to release permanent F2P on Thursday 19th February in celebration of Old School's 2nd birthday. Along with some small pieces of content in-game we will be opening the game to absolutely everyone. In a recent newspost we spoke briefly about potential restrictions on permanent F2P to prevent bots being an issue. We have since had a meeting and decided on some more refined restrictions that should allow us to both cut down on the number of bots that F2P brings along while having as insignificant of an impact on gameplay as possible. We will go into more detail on these restrictions in the coming weeks running up to the release of F2P. Membership Bonds will not be released alongside permanent F2P. They will follow at some point in early March. Achievement Diaries Achievement Diaries have been in the works for quite some time now and we are finally approaching release. With 10 brand new diaries nearing completion this update is going to be a big one. Earlier this year Mod John C released the highest stat that is required by any diary for every skill. As you can see, being able to complete every elite diary will definitely require you to be an elite player. The Achievement Diaries update is sure to be one that gives you all something to aim for and a massive amount of content with which you can fill your time. With each diary you complete you will receive a reward offering you benefits in the area of the diary. You can read a full list of some of the benefits rewards offer in the previousAchievement Diary rewards dev blog. Completing all diaries is a truly elite accomplishment and will allow you to get your hands on the Achievement Diary Cape. Completing all diaries will also allow you to trim your Quest Cape! Be sure to take a look at Mod Ghost's Twitter to see some of the brand new designs for the Achievement Diary rewards. Dragon Defender After passing through a poll alongside the Grand Exchange, the dragon defender will be coming to Old School in early February. Once you get yourself a rune defender and show it to Kamfreena you will be allowed access to the basement of the Warriors' Guild. In the basement you will find a room of Cyclopes that drop dragon defenders. The defender will have the following stats: Stab attack: +25 Slash attack: +24 Crush attack: +23 Magic attack: -3 Range attack: -2 Stab defence: +25 Slash defence: +24 Crush defence: +23 Magic defence: -3 Range defence: -2 Strength bonus: +6 It will require 60 Attack and Defence to equip. GameBlast Later on in February, from the 20th - 21st, we are going to be taking part in GameBlast15. Each year SpecialEffect host GameBlast, a weekend-long gaming marathon, raising money to help bring gaming back to the lives of gamers with disabilities. Over the GameBlast weekend we will be re-opening the Well of Goodwill and allowing the community to donate to this excellent cause. The Jagex stream will be starting at midday on Friday 20th February and will run for 24 hours. During the Old School segment of the livestream Mods Weath and Ronan will be busting some bots live! Of course, all of the loot from the bots will go straight into the Well of Goodwill. If you are interested in finding out more about GameBlast and maybe even joining in to raise money for a good cause, head over to the SpecialEffect website. The Grand Exchange The Grand Exchange is still in development but it is well on the way to being complete. We are aiming to get the Grand Exchange out before the end of February. Now that both the Grand Exchange poll and the followup tweaks poll have concluded we know exactly what the G.E. will be when it comes to Old School. It will be located in north-west Varrock where it was originally placed in 2007. It will use the original design of the Grand Exchange with a single post in the center, surrounded by clerks and bankers. There will be some NPCs dotted around the Grand Exchange including an NPC to decant potions and an NPC to decant jewellery. Be sure to follow @JagexAsh for the latest updates on the progress and behind the scenes screenshots of the Grand Exchange.
